Several even found themselves trapped in their homes as water and sand rushed in sealing their doors making it impossible to open and escape.
Sadly, we heard a few of Stopa’s elderly victims actually drowned in their homes trying to escape.
Countless other residents were literally fighting for their lives as a 7 foot storm surge destroyed homes and buried everything in over 4 feet of sand.
