Mark Stopa Bombshell! Mark Stopa Had Chinese Exchange Student Sit For Part Of The Florida Bar Exam For Him!
Yep! Get ready, it’s another Mark Stopa bombshell!
You’re not going to want to miss this one. You will also want to be sitting down for this because it’s real shocker. FDLE and Members of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners (FBBE) have discovered that Mark Stopa never passed the Florida Bar exam. Shocking new information has to come to light 20 years later. Someone has come forward claiming Stopa had someone else take the exam for him.
Now, the members of the FBBE are worked up into a frenzy behind the scenes. They want to know how Stopa pulled this scam off. They also want to know how many other people got away with this same scam in the early 2000s.
The FBBE and the State Bar of Florida now have a nightmare on their hands because this throws the legitimacy of the entire Florida legal system out the window.
Stopa Can’t Pass The Bar Exam
It turns out, that in 2002 after graduating law school at UF, Stopa sat for bar exam multiple times. He took it the first time. He failed. Then, he took it a second time. He failed. Hoping the third time would the charm, he took it again. He failed it again.
But it wouldn’t be three strikes and you’re out for Mark Stopa. Nope! So, he took it fourth time. This time he only failed Part B of the exam. Stopa apparently kept getting hung up on legal ethics (no surprise there).
Now Stopa faced a huge dilemma with his parents. He couldn’t tell them he couldn’t pass the bar exam. Now, they couldn’t brag to their friends about “their son, the lawyer.”
Gary and Sharon Stopa invested heavily into Mark’s legal education. Now, they faced seeing that six-figure investment wasted away like dust in the wind.
Let’s face it. Any parent would be really pissed off that they are on the hook for $100,000 in Sallie Mae student loans only to have their son not be able to practice law.
Stopa Meets Chinese Foreign Exchange Student Wei Tu Dum
So, what would a distraught law school graduate to do? Well, Stopa searched high and low through UF’s student directory looking for foreign exchange students. Stopa preferred Asian students who appeared to having immigration issues in the months after 9/11.
Stopa needed someone to sit for the bar exam for him.
What better person to have than a foreign exchange student with immigration issues. Stopa figured if they turn into a rat, no one will believe them and he could make up some bullshit to get them deported.
Ironically, it was at the gay Pulse night club in Orlando where Stopa would meet and befriend his test taking victim Wei Tu Dum.
Wei was a brilliant young Chinese student who was flourishing at UF. He was about to graduate from UF law with honors and was working on a dual Master’s Degree in Mass Communication.
Young Gay Guns Night at The Pulse Nightclub
The Pulse was hosting the regular monthly “Young Guns” night where they relaxed the age restrictions to allow young boys 18 and older to enter.
But Stopa’s pal Joachim (remember him?) who routinely manned the front door let in any young stud with a semi-believable fake ID.
So “Young Gun” night as it was known then attracted young men who were thrilled to experience their first sense of freedom and explore.
Turns out, just like Stopa, Wei liked younger guys. So each month they would make the long trek to the Pulse night club for this special event.
Stopa Finds A Patsy
After a night of unbridled debauchery in an Orlando motel with barely legal teens, Stopa presented Wei with an offer. He would pay Wei $25,000 ($43,500 in 2024 dollars) to take the last part of the Bar exam for him. Stopa would furnish him with all the information he would need to know and a fake ID with Stopa’s name on it.
Stopa agreed to give Wei $5000 as a deposit and the $20,000 after Wei took the exam with proof Stopa had passed the exam.
The July test date came. Wei got into the exam room with no problems using a fake ID Stopa supplied him with Stopa’s name on it. He took the exam. Now, all he and Stopa had to do is wait.
Stopa Refuses to Pay Wei
In September 2002, Stopa received word he had at long last passed the Florida Bar exam. Well, on paper any how. Now, all he had to do is wait for his Florida Bar card and settle up with Wei.
However, Stopa didn’t want to pay Wei. Wei began calling asking for his money. But Stopa evaded him like he would later do with process servers and bill collectors.
So, Wei began staking out Stopa’s house at 31 SW 23rd Way in Gainesville. Wei remembered Stopa telling him he never kept money in banks. He had money and gold coins stashed in a bag in his mattress.
Stopa also stashed silver and gold coins in the mattress as well. So Wei hatched a plan to get paid.
Wei knew that Stopa would NEVER miss Young Guns night at the Pulse. The number of fresh young, inexperienced boys who were willing to do ANYTHING was just way too much of a temptation for Stopa to resist.
So Wei waited for Stopa to take off for Orlando to make his move. He planned to stop at Stopa’s apartment and grab the money bag hidden in Stopa’s mattress.
But Stopa being Stopa – forgot his wallet, condoms and boy butter. So, Stopa turned around and headed back home to Gainesville.
Stopa showed up right while Wei and a few friends were getting out of their cars.
Stopa Tricks Wei Tu Dum With a Fabricated Rape & Robbery Setup
A verbal confrontation ensued. When cooler heads prevailed, Wei’s Triad friends left and Stopa and Wei went inside to work out a deal.
Stopa agreed to give Wei another $5000 but was all amped up from taking a triple dose of GHB on his way to The Pulse nightclub.
Stopa told Wei he wanted some action before paying him and he wanted it ROUGH. He instructed Wei to choke and punch him in the face while taking him from behind.
Wei obliged and began punching and choking Stopa as he sodomized him from behind. But little did Wei know it was all a STOPA SETUP.
As soon as Wei was finished, Stopa paid him the money. As Wei was on his way out the door, Stopa began crying like a bitch and called the police. Stopa’s home was right on campus close to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium so officers arrived almost immediately and interviewed Stopa.
Stopa fabricated a fantastical story that Wei spiked his drink with GHB and then assaulted, raped and robbed him. Stopa told officers they would find $5,000 in cash that Wei stole from Stopa.
Officers detained Wei and found the cash which was stained with blood and boy butter. They arrested Wei charging him with assault, rape and robbery.
Stopa was taken to the hospital for uncontrolled bleeding from a rectal prolapse. The seized money was later returned to Stopa. He agreed to drop all charges against Wei if he agreed to leave the USA and sign an NDA to never disclose to anyone that he was the one that took the bar exam for him.
Wei Gets Deported
Wei was faced with dealing with costly criminal trial in Florida or go back to China. He choose to go back to China.
Wei was later deported without incident.
